OleaPark was an amazing experience for us. We started working on OleaPark on 2010 as the first ambient social network application: “connect with new people close to you”. The user did not need to checkin, the app ran quietly in the background. It was a technical challenge in 2010 and a huge bet when Foursquare checkins were growing quickly in the US.
When we released our first iOS and Android applications in 2011, most of our users complained about the battery issue and mostly used OleaPark to meet new people at events. We thought "events" was the first use case to drive the adoption. We changed the product and concentrated our effort to create the most amazing experience for people at events. We developed a powerful recommendation engine using social information from facebook, twitter and linkedin. It was a success: Google, DLD, Wired chose OleaPark for their events, creating thousands of meetings.
Unfortunately, we did not find a viable business model to be able to continue to improve the platform and the applications. We decided to close down OleaPark to work on other exciting projects.
Thanks for your support.
All the best,
Florent & Karl
